ChainThink report, March 9: According to Fortune magazine, Caitlin Kalinowski, who led OpenAI’s hardware and robotics operations starting November 2024, has officially resigned.
She announced her departure via posts on X and LinkedIn: "I have left OpenAI. I deeply cherish the robotics team and the work we built together. This was not an easy decision. AI plays a critical role in national security, yet unchecked surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomous weapons deployed without human authorization cross lines that should have warranted far more rigorous ethical scrutiny. This is about principle, not personal. I hold Sam and the team in high regard, and I am proud of what we achieved together."
Her resignation comes amid escalating controversy over AI companies’ collaborations with the U.S. military. Recently, negotiations between the Pentagon and Anthropic collapsed due to Anthropic’s insistence on restricting domestic surveillance and autonomous weapons, while OpenAI subsequently secured a deal with the Department of Defense to deploy its models onto classified government networks.
