View OriginalChainThink report, March 16: According to The Information, ByteDance has suspended its global launch plan for its latest video generation model, Seedance 2.0, following a series of copyright disputes with major Hollywood studios and streaming platforms. Last month, several U.S. production studios—including Disney—issued legal threats, prompting ByteDance to state it would implement measures to prevent unauthorized use of its AI video generator, Seedance 2.0, in infringing intellectual property rights.
Last month, Disney sent a cease-and-desist letter to ByteDance, accusing the company of training and powering the Seedance 2.0 model using Disney characters without authorization. Disney alleged that ByteDance preloaded Seedance with a pirated IP library featuring characters from franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel, falsely presenting them as public domain assets.
ByteDance originally planned to launch Seedance 2.0 globally in mid-March but has now paused the initiative. The company’s legal team is currently auditing and resolving potential legal issues, while engineers are enhancing protective mechanisms to prevent the model from generating content that could trigger further intellectual property infringement claims.
