ChainThink report, on March 19, Square and Cash App's parent company Block has quietly rehired some employees laid off at the end of February. This round of layoffs initially affected around 4,000 people and was part of the company’s strategic shift toward artificial intelligence.

Several employees have publicly shared their return to the company on LinkedIn. Design engineer Andrew Harvard stated on March 3 that he was informed the layoff was due to an "administrative error" and has accepted the company’s offer to return.

Technical lead Richard Hesse said he spent two days convincing management that his team’s work—deemed "critical to customers"—required sufficient staffing, leading the company to agree to rehire some of the previously laid-off staff. Creative strategy lead Chane Rennie also disclosed on March 12 that he was asked to return to work about a week after his layoff.
