View OriginalAs monitored by 1M AI News, Tencent's TEG (Technology Engineering Group) has undergone an organizational restructuring, officially dissolving the AI Lab established in 2016. Vice President Jiang Jie of Tencent Group will no longer serve as Director of the AI Lab, though his other managerial responsibilities remain unchanged. Some personnel from the former AI Lab have been reassigned to the Hunyuan team, reporting directly to Chief AI Scientist Yao Shunyu; the Research-Industry-Academia Collaboration Center remains intact; and the Multimodal Department now reports directly to TEG President Lu Shan.
Yao Shunyu, born in 1997, graduated from Tsinghua University and previously served as a researcher at OpenAI. He joined Tencent in December 2025, reporting directly to President Liu Zhicheng. At Tencent’s earnings call on March 18, it was disclosed that Hunyuan 3.0, led by Yao Shunyu, has entered internal business testing and is expected to be launched in April.
Over the past decade, the AI Lab has been led by figures including Yao Xing, Zhang Tong, Zhang Zhengyou, and Jiang Jie, achieving notable advancements in decision intelligence (“Juewu”), medical imaging (“Tencent FindMe”), and protein structure prediction (tFold). These technologies have been integrated into over a hundred Tencent products, including WeChat and QQ.
