View OriginalChainThink report, April 2, according to 1M AI News monitoring, Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis posted four diamond emojis on X platform; earlier, Google technical team member and Google AI Studio & Gemini API lead Logan Kilpatrick shared a post containing only the word "Gemma," with nearly identical timing. The simultaneous posts have been widely interpreted as a signal indicating the imminent release of Google's open-source model, Gemma 4.
Previous leaks have already surfaced—on LMSYS Chatbot Arena, an anonymous model with the codename "significant-otter" appeared, and when questioned about its identity, it self-identified as "I am Gemma 4, a large language model developed by Google DeepMind." Reddit users in the r/LocalLLaMA community reported that the model exhibits fast response times, is not a reasoning-focused inference model, and has passed standard benchmark tests commonly used within the community.
Google has not yet officially announced Gemma 4. The previous version, Gemma 3, is Google’s lightweight model family designed for the open-source community, supporting single GPU or TPU deployment, and featuring multilingual, multimodal, and long-context capabilities, earning strong reputation within the open-source ecosystem.
