ChainThink report, on June 23, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced that the Ethereum Foundation (EF) will reduce its budget by approximately 40% this year as part of its fiscal transformation initiative.

According to previously published fund management policies, EF is transitioning from a "spending organization" model to a "long-term endowment fund" model, aiming to gradually lower its annual expenditure ratio from around 15% to approximately 5% post-2030.

In this restructuring phase, EF has reduced its workforce by about 54 employees, representing roughly 20% of the total team. Vitalik noted that some departing members may continue contributing to Ethereum ecosystem development in external capacities in the future.

Going forward, EF will adopt a lighter-weight protocol governance and development trajectory, advancing a long-term roadmap covering consensus mechanisms, privacy technologies, account models, and state structures, while reducing investment in large-scale cross-domain initiatives and placing greater emphasis on protocol security and high-value enhancements.
