ChainThink report, on July 14, xAI responded to the controversy surrounding Grok Build's upload of full code repositories, stating that teams enabled with Zero Data Retention (ZDR) will have their code and runtime records permanently unrecorded, a setting also applicable to users accessing Grok Build via API keys.

For users not enabled with ZDR, xAI indicated that data retention can be disabled by entering /privacy in the CLI, and previously synchronized data will also be purged.

Andrew Milich, head of Grok Build, stated that after modifying privacy settings, the system will retroactively delete all previously synchronized data.

Subsequently, Musk announced that as a precautionary measure, SpaceXAI would completely erase all user data previously uploaded, leaving no trace whatsoever. However, xAI has yet to clarify why Grok Build defaults to uploading entire Git repositories.
