ChainThink report, July 28: According to TechCrunch, new data from Similarweb shows that Google's AI Overviews have increased in share of search results from 15% to 43% over the past year.

During the same period, monthly visits to AI Mode rose from 126 million in June 2025 to 279 million in May 2026.

User average search length continues to rise, with short keyword queries being increasingly replaced by more natural, conversational queries, leading to a noticeable increase in session duration on Google’s platform. This shift is having a significant impact on content publishers.

Data indicates that AI citations have grown more than fivefold compared to one year ago, yet actual referral click-throughs remain limited.

Following ChatGPT’s search update launched on May 7, desktop web redirect rates in the U.S. climbed from 25% in March to nearly 60% by late May.
