Solana's consensus upgrade Alpenglow is set to launch on mainnet on October 21, reducing finality time to approximately 150 milliseconds

ChainThink report, October 13: According to a post by Anza, Solana's new consensus protocol Alpenglow is scheduled to launch on Mainnet-beta around 22:50 on October 21, with the migration completed within a single slot.

Alpenglow, developed by Anza over an 18-month period, will replace TowerBFT and eliminate the Proof-of-History (PoH) mechanism, reducing transaction finality time from several seconds to approximately 150 milliseconds;

Voting will be moved off-chain, freeing up block space for user transactions. The protocol has already undergone migration on testnet and devnet, and passed simulation testing across 1,500 nodes, with bug bounties exceeding 25,000 SOL.
