ChainThink report, November 1: OneKey founder Yishi warns that iPhone 11 and earlier models are affected by hardware vulnerabilities that cannot be patched via system updates, and thus are not recommended for storing mnemonic phrases.

iPhone 4S through iPhone X are impacted by the BootROM vulnerability known as checkm8; the usbliter8 exploit, disclosed in June this year, affects iPhone XS, XR, 11 series, and second-generation SE.

After gaining physical access to a device, an attacker can execute code via the USB interface before iOS boots up, rendering Airplane Mode ineffective in preventing such attacks.

Yishi advises users who have already stored mnemonics on these devices to generate new mnemonics in a trusted environment and migrate their assets, rather than simply changing the wallet address associated with the original mnemonic.

He also recommends keeping systems updated, using more secure devices and stronger wallet passwords, avoiding charging through public USB ports, and remaining vigilant about the risk of physical attacks during prolonged periods when devices are out of personal control.
