ChainThink News, on February 19, 2025, the Swiss Federal Council (Bundesrat) formally approved and submitted the draft bill "Expansion of the Automatic Exchange of Information (AIA)" to parliament, with core provisions including:

1. Introduction of a new "Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework" (CARF), establishing a standardized reporting regime for crypto assets;
2. Updates to the existing Financial Account AIA standard (CRS) to align with the demands of the digital asset era.

The new regulations will take effect on January 1, 2026, at which point Switzerland will commence automatic cross-border exchange of on-chain data related to cryptocurrency wallets, exchange accounts, NFTs, DeFi positions, and other digital asset holdings and transactions with participating jurisdictions.

This marks the first time Switzerland has fully integrated crypto assets into the global tax transparency framework, signaling the dawn of a more stringent era of cross-border tax compliance for the blockchain and digital asset industry. It is expected that over 100 countries and territories worldwide will follow suit, requiring crypto investors and institutions to prepare in advance for enhanced KYC and tax reporting obligations.
